In August 2021, as Covid-19 raged around the world and the Olympics were held in Tokyo, the “Future Memory” exhibition was opened at Courtyard Hiroo Gallery in Hiroo, Tokyo.
The exhibition featured collaborative works by Fujimoto and Hersey including “Future Memory – No Name“ digital artwork and silkscreens on gold leaf and silver leaf paper, and “Future Memory – Watch” bronze sculpture. The exhibition premiered “Future Memory – Portrait of Museum / Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum” made by Hersey, Fujimoto and Yuta Tokunaga.
The exhibition also included solo artworks including “Survivor Tree” silkscreens on paper by Hersey, and realist and abstracted paintings on canvas of the mushroom cloud by Fujimoto.
On August 6, the day of the atomic bombing, an online “Dialogue” was held, with the collector Shigeru Aoi and Fujimoto from the Tokyo venue, and film producer Taku Nishimae and Hersey from New York and activist Akira Kawasaki of ICAN and Peace Boat from Hiroshima in a renewed discussion on culture’s ability to create a better world.
