Future Memory – No Name

Pen / 3D data / Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum

“Future Memory – No Name” digital artworks, silkscreen paintings, silkscreens on paper and bronze sculptures were created by Hersey and Fujimoto using photogrammetry made from objects impacted by the atomic bomb from the collection of the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum whose owners names are unknown.

STORY

Akira Fujimoto and Canon Hersey looked at the countless nameless artifacts preserved at the museum. They deeply pondered the weight of life that is put into each of the thousands of artifacts that have been preserved but never exhibited, and what kind of expression is possible. The artworks created through the 3D data brought to light the essence of the A-bombed artifacts, which had been invisible until then, and made them visible as new “memories” that could be passed on to the future. The works of art created through the 3D data became the catalyst for an art project called “Future Memory,” in which the essence of the A-bombed artifacts, which had been invisible until then, was made manifest and passed on to the future as new “memories”.
